About Start Golf

I’m Brian. I’m 64, and I play off 54.

I live in Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan and I’m a member at Brynhill Golf Club. I came to golf late, after years of watching my wife Lisa play. She’s off 13, was the club’s first female captain, and has worked DP World Tour events as a marshal and scorer. Together we run a women’s golf clothing business, so the game has been part of our lives for a long time. Playing it properly is the new bit.

I got my first handicap in September 2026, at 64: 54.0, the highest there is. My goal is under 24 by the end of 2027.

Why Start Golf?

Most golf content is written by people who are already good at it, and most of them started young. This site is for everyone else: the beginner, the returner, the person who thinks they’ve left it too late, and the one whose partner plays and who has finally decided to give it a go. I’ll share every round, what’s working, what isn’t, and the kit I try along the way. No airbrushing. If I take thirteen on the 18th, you’ll know about it.
